Robert is one of the investigators for the APPreSci consortium.
He is Professor of Surgery at the University of Liverpool and Honorary Consultant Surgeon at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust. In addition, he is Director of Research, Development and Innovation at this Trust, Director of Research for Liverpool Health Partners and an NIHR Senior Investigator.
His research is in Pancreatology and Surgery (h-index 49 and 10,000 citations in Scopus).
Recent translational breakthroughs have demonstrated the efficacy of new drugs inhibiting calcium entry and/or intracellular release. His current work is focused on transcriptomic profiling of acute pancreatitis in rodents and humans. He led the highly successful NIHR Liverpool Pancreas Biomedical Research Unit, also expanding experimental medicine infrastructure through the first MHRA Phase I Accredited NHS Clinical Research Facility in England. He also led establishment of the Liverpool Health Genomics Laboratory and £25 M Liverpool Life Science Accelerator through local investment, developing many research leaders.
